Ghana has currently has a student population of over 315,000 in the country’s tertiary education system.
There are 10,383 foreign students in Ghana
Most people in the tertiary schools are between the ages of 19 to 24 years old.
Young people enrol in universities to achieve academic excellence whiles in school
University education in Ghana can be completed in a maximum of 4 years and a minimum of 2years.
There are over 146 universities both public and private in Ghana
These universities are spread across the major urban regions in Ghana
Tertiary students are made up of both local and international students. Therefore they are exposed to all cultures.
International students make up 3.2 percent of the total tertiary population in Ghana.
Most young people feel a sense of liberation when they enter university. They finally have the freedom to create their own path and make their own decisions on their own
They are greatly influenced by peers, trends and social media.

PROCEDURE AND FORMAT
1. The Student must pick the UMB Ghana Tertiary Nomination Forms.

2. Students must attach a passport picture size to his or her nomination form.

3. Must provide evidence to the selected category in the form of the following Documents, Video, Picture or a link).

4. Applicant’s Referee must sign and stamp or use his initials when it’s a soft copy to authenticate the validity of the nomination forms.

5. The completion of the nomination form will give us the opportunity to understand the student’s accomplishments, positive demeanor, and community involvement. This will be the core information used in the selection process.


OUR GOALS

• To Award students whose lives have changed their society, through their contribution in the area of their work even though they are students.
• To understand why the students lose their way and self-awareness needed to avoid derailment
• To equip the students with leadership principles, values and ethical boundaries that will enable them handle pressures when severely challenged.
• To find strategies to eliminate extreme poverty, up-hold human right, safeguard a sustainable community and human dignity for poor and vulnerable population.
• To use this Awards platform to talk to them to take leadership positions right from school or community or parliament or hold international roles to boost the current quota.
• To use this year’s Awards Festival to educate the students on “the myth of hepatitis B” And to debunk the myths around it.
• To explore the understanding of Entrepreneurship and Identify factors and resources which are useful in the undertaking initiatives and entrepreneurial activities by students
To understand what is motivating them, both extrinsically and intrinsically and to find leadership paths that will enable them to utilize their motivated capabilities

ELIGIBILITY
1. Applicants must be a student in any of the tertiary institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, Teachers training, Vocational Institutions and Nursing Schools)
2. Must hold a valid ID School Card.
3. Applicants should be considered for outstanding contributions to their school, community and/or Ghana for a project that the individual initiated, organized or contributed to significantly.
4. Applicant’s individual achievements must be in the areas of education, social action, entertainment and positive change.
5. There is no academic qualification barrier.

METHODOLOGY

• Speeches by His Excellency the President of Ghana, Honorable Minister of Education and well know Public figures with the will help sensitized the students to reach for greater heights and do more for Ghana whiles they are still in School.
• Seminars Across all Tertiary Institutions to encourage them to take National Responsibilities and getting them involve in the smooth administration of the state.
• Giving them the Award during the Awards Night will encourage them to do more for Ghana since the Students know that every year there’s a National Awards which appreciates their efforts as students.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience for the Ghana Tertiary Awards 2016 is the youth of Ghana and it is going to be organized in the month of October after the All first Years have been enrolled into all our various Tertiary Institutions. This is considered because in October the youth in the Tertiary Institutions have little or no entertaining but educative environment to both develop and ease the stress of studying the whole year. It is our hope to have the Ghana Tertiary Awards every year to provide the Tertiary Institutions the platform to be rewarded on their hard work as students to help change our society and Ghana as a whole. The success of this Awards Ceremony will be the beginning of self-development and encouragement for the students to start helping mother Ghana even before Graduating from school. Target Groups such as Universities (Government & Private), Polytechnics and other tertiary communities; NAFTI, GIJ, GIMPA and other technical, NURSING COLLEGES and VOCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.

EXPERTED OUT COME
By the end of the Awards, we would have created a strong generational breed of informed and
Competent tertiary students ready to take action for their rightful placement, as well as
Encouraged them to engage in the activities of comprehensive, direct and context-specific
Strategies to empower the youth and leave a legacy. It is expected that the students would have;
• Been equipped with skills that empower them in their career development paths
• Identified their self-worth and ability to say “NO”.
• Been challenged to transform lives and inspire change wherever they find themselves.
• Acquire extensive information regarding Hepatitis B.
• Been inspired and empowered to be entrepreneurs to raise their income level which would affect the Economic development and bring Social change.

This year, all the UMB GHANA TERTIARY AWARDS 2017 forms must be downloaded from the Youth Web Ghana Website or any UMB Branch Nationwide. Hard copies will be also be accepted by the UMB GHANA TERTIARY AWARDS BOARD.

– General Eligibility Requirements & Awards Application Information –
General eligibility requirements and application procedures apply to all awards. Please review these procedures before completing any awards application. Each award category below has specific eligibility requirements, application procedures, judging criteria and submission procedures.

1. STUDENT OF THE YEAR -- The student of the year is determined by the board with and the general public as student of the year with reference to their overall contribution to society and the country at large. He/ She must have evidence (physical) and astute referees to prove his/her claims. Most importantly he/ she must be a student.

2. STUDENT IN AGRICULTURE-- The Most Influential Student in Agriculture is determined by the board and the general public. He/ She should be a student with a valid student ID and should have evidence (physical) of his/ her Agricultural initiative that have benefitted his/ her society and the country at large. An astute referee must be available alongside evidence to prove his/ her claims.

3. STUDENT SOFTWARE DEVELOPER--The Most Influential Student Software Developer is determined by the Board and the general public as student software developer after he/ she has provided solid evidence of being a student and materials and other I.T and software essentials that are his/ her creations and development and can be proven by astute referees as his creations and how it has benefitted the school, society and country at large.

4. STUDENT ENGINEER -- The Most Influential Student Engineer will be determined by the Board and general public. He/ She must be a student and have strong evidence pertaining to his/ her works as an engineer and have an astute referee who can bear witness to his initiatives. He/ She must have made an impact to the society, his/ her school and the country when it comes to the field of engineering.

5. STUDENT RADIO PRESENTER (MALE & FEMALE) --The Most Influential Student Radio Presenter will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ She must be a student and must be known by the student populace as an influential radio presenter and should have made a positive impact in their lives. Must be a student and have referee to vouch for him/ her.

6. STUDENT TV PRESENTER (MALE & FEMALE) -- The Most Influential Student TV Presenter will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ She must be a student and must be well known for presenting on TV. His / her influence must be felt and have referee to vouch for him/ her.

7. STUDENT BLOGGER/WRITER/REPORTER -- The Most Influential Student Blogger/Writer/Reporter will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ She must be a student and his/ her writings and blog must be popular and well patronized. Must be a blog that has some sort of impact on the society and country at large.

8. STUDENT IN SPORT -- The Most Influential Student in Sport will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ She must be a student and must be a prolific sports girl/ boy in his school and must have a level of popularity in his institution and must’ve made an impact.

9. STUDENT FASHION DESIGNER -- The Most Influential Student Fashion Designer will be determined by the Board and the general public. His/ her works must be known by a great number of patrons. Must be creative and his/ her creations should be unique and have a wow factor that makes it standout.

10. STUDENT MODEL (MALE & FEMALE) -- The Most Influential Student Male and Female Model will be determined by the Board and the general public. His/ he modeling career must’ve made a positive impact and must have solid evidence of his/ her modeling career.

11. STUDENT IN HEALTH SCIENCE -- The Most Influential Student in Health Science will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ she must be a health student and must’ve made an impact in relation to Health Science.

12. STUDENT WITH DISABILITY -- The Most Influential Physically Challenged Student will be determined by the Board and the general public. He or She must be physically disabled and must be engaged in an activity or initiative that positively impacts the community.

13. STUDENT FILM/VIDEO EDITOR or DIRECTOR -- The Most Influential Student Film/Video Editor or Director will be determined by the Board and the general public. He or She must have evidence of films and videos he/ she edited and must have a referee to prove his claims.

14. STUDENT MUSICIAN -- The Most Influential Student in Music will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she must have songs which are popular in the student environment or even his/ her society.

15. STUDENT ENTREPRENEUR -- The Most Influential Student Entrepreneur will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ she must own a business which has a positive impact on the society.

16. HALL OF RESIDENCE -- The Most Influential Student Hall will be determined by the Board and the general public. The hall must be a favorite of most of the residents.

17. EVENT OF THE YEAR -- The Most Influential Student Event of the Year will be determined by the Board and the general public. Must be an event that was well talked about, thus, before and after it happened with picture and video evidence.

18. POET & SPOKEN WORD -- The Most Influential Student Radio Presenter will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ she must be known amongst the student populace and must’ve graced stages to perform with picture and video evidence.

19. STUDENT SOUND ENGINEER – The Most Influential Student Sound Engineer will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she must have good productions which are popular in the student environment or even his/ her society.

20. STUDENT FOUNDATION -- The Most Influential Student Foundation will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ she must have embarked on several charity initiatives with pictures and video evidence.

21. COMEDIAN -- The Most Influential Student Comedian will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ she should be patronized by student masses and known as funny. Must’ve performed at a number of shows and have picture and video evidence.

22. EVENT HOUSE - The Most Influential Student Event House will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ she must have embarked on several initiatives which have been patronized by most students and the general public as a whole. This must come with pictures and video evidence.
23. STUDENT DJ – The Most Influential Student DJ will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she must have been on most popular events/shows in the student environment or even his/ her society.

24. STUDENT GRAPHIC DESIGNER/ARTS – The Most Influential Student Graphic designer/Arts will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she must have good works which portrays the concept of the Events/Products/Brands among the student environment or even his/ her society.

25. SRC PRESIDENT – The Most Influential SRC will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she must have initiated good policies which have positive impacts on the lives of the Students/School or in their environment.

26. MC (MALE & FEMALE) – The Most Influential Student MC will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she must have been on most popular events/shows in the student environment or even his/ her society.

27. TERTIARY TELEVISION SHOW – The Most Influential Tertiary Television Show will be determined by the Board and the general public. The Show must have initiated good concept or production which has positive impacts on the lives of the Students in their environment.

28. TERIARY RADIO SHOW – The Most Influential Tertiary Radio Show will be determined by the Board and the general public. The Show must have initiated good concept or production which has positive impacts on the lives of the Students in their society.

29. STUDENT BEAUTY QUEEN -- The Most Influential Student Beauty Queen will be determined by the Board and the general public. She must initiate good policies which have positive impacts on the lives of the Students/School or in her society.

30. STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHER – The Most Influential Student Photographer will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she must have good works which portrays the concept of their Products/Brands among the students or environment or even his/ her society.

31. FOREIGN STUDENT – The Most Influential Foreign Student will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she must have initiated good policies which have positive impacts on the lives of the Students/School or in her country.

32. MODELING AGENCY – The Most Influential Student Modeling Agency will be determined by the Board and the general public. He/ she must have embarked on several initiatives which have positive impact among the student’s lives or his/her society. This must be with pictures and video evidence.

33. ACTOR/ ACTRESS -- The Most Influential Student in Acting will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she must have been starred or featured in most movies or drama series. This must come with reel shows and pictures of his or her movies or drama series.

34. BEST DANCER/ DANCE CREW -- The Most Influential Student Best Dancer/Dance Crew will be determined by the Board and the general public. He / she/the group must have performed on most shows/music videos. This must come with videos and pictures of his or her movies or drama series.
